That is why I said that you would die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.” – John 8:24
What sins are you willing to die with?
When you think about that question, it will bring up a lot of past decisions, hidden secrets, guilty regrets, and even messy mistakes that we have made. The way most of us deal with all these things is by locking them away in some forgotten, hidden closet in our minds or bury them in some 6-foot hole at the bottom of our heart. However, hidden closets and 6-foot holes won’t hide anything from you. You still have that key to that hidden place, and you still know the spot where everything lies.
We think because something is hidden and buried that its dead. But it’s not, and God knows what we have buried and what has been tucked away in secret. Living with secrets is a terrible way to live, and Jesus knows it. He also knows it only leads to destruction. John Baker said it best in his book Life’s Healing Choices that:
The Apostle Paul made it clear to the Church at Rome that “this is the message I proclaim–that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life” (Romans 2:16). When Jesus teaches about giving us life in His name (Acts 4:12), a part of this Life is to hand over our keys and shovels to our closets and holes. You don’t have to keep things in a hidden closet anymore. You can come to an open throne room where there are grace and mercy for your failures (Hebrews 4:16). You don’t have to bury things in a 6-foot grave any longer. You just need to take a one-foot drop to your knees and confess your sins and ask for forgiveness in Jesus name, and it will be granted (1 John 1:9).
Listen, you don’t have to die in your sins when Jesus has died for them (Romans 4:25), and because He has risen from the dead for your forgiveness, it is always available and sure that He will forgive you. Before you come to the Throne of Mercy and Grace, I want you to remember who sits on that throne. The Bible says that “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable” (Hebrews 4:13). The prophet Daniel said it best, “It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.” Jesus said you don’t have to die in your sins because He already did if you believe in Him.
